WASHINGTON DC FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHER

You don’t need to prove anything.

You are already enough.

I bring my cameras and I come to witness you, just as you are, in this big/ messy/ chaotic/ joyful/ liminal moment.

Maternity

This is where it starts- this time of your body as home.

It’s fleeting and sometimes uncomfortable, but holy Hannah, I love getting to photograph pregnant bodies.

Breastfeeding

Yes, fed is best, but if you’ve ever felt like you’ve been sent to a closet to feed your baby, these photos are about feeling empowered to breastfeed without fear.

Motherhood

I’ve got an amazing father and an equally wonderful partner, but still, there’s something about making photos with just mothers and their children that has my creative heart.

MOTHERHOOD COLLECTION

Newborn & Family Film Photographer serving Maryland, DC and Northern Virginia

Photographs rooted in essence.

I want making pictures together to feel like a dinner party- the kind of party where you straighten up your house, but you don't stress about the details. You put in your favorite dress and you find clothing for the kids that doesn't have stains, but you don't feel like you've got anything to prove. Because the truth is, you don't.

Or maybe it feels more like a sleepover because lord knows I love a sleep over. Maybe you're still in your pajamas and the morning light is coming in and we start by drinking a coffee at your kitchen table.

I want to make pictures with you that feel like the sort of thing that your best friend would make, you know, if they happened to be pretty damn good with a camera.

Sure, I want to move you into the good light and I might tell you to tilt your chin a little, but I only want make images that feel like moments that actually happen in your day to day.

I want pictures that feel like your essence. I want you to look at them and see a truth that already feels deeply known to you and reminds you of all that is good and beautiful in your life, without an ounce of performance.

I want your labor to be made visible.

I want your love to take center stage.

I want you to feel seen with compassion and to see yourself with that very same gaze when you look at the pictures for years to come.

[More About Rachel]

“Rachel’s pictures illuminate the essential good and beautiful in her subjects, their surroundings, and the moment. Being with her feels like a long-lost friend and so there is no performance or presentational element; just purity of being together with loved ones suspended for an eternity through her gaze.”

- ADRIENNE

“Rachel captured something so true about our little family and life together. Honestly, if I could only pass one photograph of our family down to future generations, she just took it- but I still can't pick which one!”

- AIMEE

Yes, I would love to take your pictures but I also love getting to help other photographers make the pictures of their creative dreams. there’s all sorts of ways we can work together that way too.
